If you are anything like our family, you have been in SIP quarantine for more than 6 weeks! With that in mind, we found a great flower alternative for your Mother, Grandmother, Godmother and any Mother-like person that you would like to celebrate this weekend.
Here are the materials you will need for this craft:
– Sharpie Markers
– Plastic Cups
– Scissors
– Oven (350 degrees)
Start Your Flowers with Plastic Cups and Sharpie MarkersUse your Sharpie markers to color the inside of your cups as creatively as possible, making sure that you color the bottom of the cup because that will be the center of your flower.Cut the sides of your plastic cup 5 time, or more, to create the separated petals of the flower when baked. These is a great option for all aged children, even preschoolers! This what the cups look like after you bake them for 2 mins at 350 degrees!!Final Version of Plastic Flowers
We offer monthly Paint Your Pet sessions in the San Jose area, however what if you want to paint your pet’s portrait on your own time? We are using acrylic paint for this example.
Here are a few tricks of the trade that we tell our painters during our Paint Your Pet sessions:
Step 1: Make sure that you start with an outline! This outline will help you stay focused on the contouring and colorizing of your painting, rather than focusing on whether your pet’s nose is too close to it’s eyes.
Step 1 – Sketched outline of pet
Step 2: We generally recommend that you paint your pet first, and then decide on your background color based upon the colors you used for your pet and the room or area that you want to hang your masterpiece.
When adding color to your pet, try to follow the natural contours of the body, head and limbs to build up volume within your painting.
Next, add in the movement marks and accent marks to your pet’s body, head and limbs to add more contrast to the light and dark areas.
Pro tip: To bring life to your pet’s eyes, take the back side of the brush and dunk it into your white paint. Dot 1-2 dots of white in the pupil of your pet’s eye to add a gleam!
Step 2 – Paint your pet first!
Step 3: Select your background color or texture. If there is a specific room or area of your home that you would like this painting to be hung in, then you want to pick a complementary color for the background color/texture.
The color wheel below can help you to pick Analogous color or Complementary colors based upon the primary colors in the room you want to hang the painting in, or the colors you painted for your pet itself.
This color wheel shows analogous colors and complementary colors for picking your background color.Step 3 – Paint your background, last!
Voila! You are finished with Pet’s portrait painting! Do not forget to sign your painting with your initials in the bottom right or left hand side of the canvas. Your painting will dry within 20-30 mins and is ready to be enjoyed. Your acrylic paint will dry like a hard plastic and does not need to be varnished.
As summer comes to a close for many, it is a great time to do something creative! This project is kid friendly and messy which only adds to the fun!

Spring is a great time to be creative. Flowers are blooming and birds are chirping, so paint al fresco, in the open air, is an essential way to connect with nature.
Great places to grab a canvas and paint at are:
• Your local park
• Your patio/backyard
• Outside patio of a local restaurant or bar

Are you and your work team looking for a fun, new way of getting to know each other? We had a recent group from Yahoo Inc. that wanted to spice up their painting experience by painting their own Spirit Animals. They picked the animals, we sketched them on the canvasses and they painted them together, while having drinks and food of course. What a fun night!
During this time of year, we are start to think about those that we cherish and feel thankful to have in our lives. This is a Give Thanks wreath that I made for my 3rd graders’ classroom.
Each child had the opportunity to write down who, or what they were thankful for most this year. The best part was that it was competed in time for Grandparents day too!
What better way to show you love and devotion for your Pet, than to paint them? Whether your best animal friend has four legs or a beak, you will have a blast painting your favorite photo of he/she at Valley Painting Parties. We take all of the guess work out of painting an animal by sketching the outline on a canvas for you!
